Puppy Behavior Problems

The Chase

One of a dog’s instincts, as a predator, is to run after anything that moves. Cars, people and animals are some of the thing that a puppy may chase. This can be problematic for the dog owner and have a tragic outcome for the dog. Prevention is one of the key steps that you can take when it comes to keeping your dog from dangerously chasing different things. Try to keep the chase under control in order to be successful. With some attention and a little time you can train your dog to focus your dog’s attention on you instead of on his prospective prey!

Leaping and Jumping

A puppy will jump up to signal a greeting to its mother. Greeting people may also entail jumping up into their laps or otherwise as the puppy changes and alters its behavior. Dominant behavior may also be exhibited by the puppy jumping up once it becomes a grown dog.

Someone can get hurt, or annoyed at the least, over your dog that jumps. The many techniques available to address this behavior will vary in success from dog to dog. You don’t want to send your dog the wrong signal by pushing the dog, grabbing his paws or blocking him with your leg even though these methods might work for some dogs. In general, to acknowledge your dog’s behavior in any way is seen by the animal as a reward so you may be reinforcing the unwanted behavior without knowing it. The greatest tip that can be given to you is to pay no attention to your pet. It is better not to touch your puppy, speak or make eye contact in order to control behavior. Continue doing what you were doing. You may give him a goody after he settles down and sits still. Your puppy’s problem behavior may subside when he understands your actions.

Dog Biting Can Be A Serious Problem

The biting instinct is a carry over from when dogs traveled and functioned in packs. Pack behavior is a problem action of your puppy that they use to learn their place in a pack and explore the environment when they bite or nip at another puppy or a human. Unacceptable and possibly problem behavior such as mouthing and biting must be discouraged by the puppy’s owner.

Some communities have tried to address the behavior of certain breeds by instituting specific laws targeted to controlling those breeds. But ultimately it is the owners who are the ones responsible for controlling their animals and providing the correct training and socialization to produce well balanced and personable pets. A Potential Problem Behavior is Aggression

Biting, lunging, showing teeth, snarling, and growling are some of the behaviors that exhibit dogs problem behavior. History or type of dog  does not indicate which animal has the likelihood of attacking, as any dog can exhibit this bad behavior. Other dogs and people could be the target of mean behavior that may be shown by an animal that has been bread with other animals with violent and documented histories of aggressiveness. Any dog can become aggressive in a particular circumstance but it is a larger problem is the dog behaves aggressively in general.  A dog who is generally aggressive or irritable may be reacting to a health condition.  A trip to the vet can easily determine if your dog has an underlying condition that could be causing the behavior. If the animal is healthy the next step might be to consult an experienced dog trainer. Mean dogs need to be kept away from other fine animals and people.
